born in Finland 1992, from where life traveled her to Sweden where she spent 4 years before moving to Iceland in 2021. Meeri is a dancer, a dance teacher and has a lot of experience working in the care sector too. She’s done studies in both dance and somatics in Finland and later dance pedagogy in Sweden where she started reflecting deeply about the structures of the educational systems she’s been part of and how those structures are also reflecting the patriarchal practices, creating unsafe environments for girls and women in- and outside of schools and how she’d want to change those practices. After moving to Iceland Meeri was introduced to feminist self-defense and felt immediately that this set of practices was exactly what she had been looking for for her whole adult life. Now she’s learning to become a trainer and deepening her understanding of the violent structures of the world so she can be a part of breaking them and instead, share tools for creating interdependent care.
