Slagtog offers multiple workshops in feminist self defense. In our workshops we teach through games, discussions, exercises, sharing stories and experiences. Together we learn about different ways to defend ourselves from different kinds of aggressions, varying from rude or unwanted comments to straight up physical assault. All of the trainers have lived experiences of gender based violence and discrimination. After participating in workshops, women and queer people alike describe an increased feeling of safety and more self-confidence in uncomfortable and/or unsafe situations.
We host monthly workshops open for women and trans people older than 18 years. Check out our calendar to see the upcoming workshops.
It is also possible to request specific workshops for specific groups, events or organizations (minimum 8 participants).
Some examples of a specified workshops depending on different groups are: LGTBQIA+ community, 55+ age , migrant women, queer people, children and teenagers (different age groups), people with disabilities, etc.
Examples of workshops depending on emphasis in material would be: self defense in situations of domestic violence, self defense against cyber bullying/harassment, verbal self defense, ground techniques in physical self defense, self defense against anti-feminism, etc.
Weekend workshop (2 days)
This is our recommended workshop. Participants learn how to recognize subtle and less subtle boundary transgressions, through interactive and playful exercises. They also learn about different prevention strategies and the setting of verbal and non-verbal boundaries. For the worst cases, we practice physical protection and defense techniques that can deal with the most frequent ways of attack. Participants engage in conversations on gender based violence, share knowledge and methods to resist violence and harassment, and discover a broad range of mental, emotional, verbal and physical self defense techniques to apply at their will.
Introduction workshops
3 hour workshop where participants get to experiment with a little bit of emotional, mental, verbal and physical self defense. Ideal if you cannot make it to a weekend workshop or want to see what FSD is all about before devoting a whole weekend to it.
Verbal Self-Defense workshop
In a verbal defense workshop particpants learn through games and exercises how to recognize different types of aggressions and reflect on different defense strategies. Since it is always uncomfortable and unsettling to be attacked (be it through words, stares, ignoring etc..) it is important to gain some tools to help with managing and channeling emotions during the defense. We work with role plays and practical exercises to have an opportunity to practice the verbal techniques acquired. Length of workshop varies depending on occasions.
Self-Defense for LGBTQIA+
Gender based violence is fuelled by sexism and patriarchy. So is homo- and transphobia. Violence against LGBTQIA+ people is another form of gender based violence and often aggressions against this group have different and intersectional elements that often get omitted in spaces adjusted around cis- and hetero women. Participants engage in conversations on violence against LGBTQIA+ people (both from within the community and from outside), share knowledge and methods to resist violence and harassment, and discover a broad range of mental, emotional, verbal and physical self defense techniques to apply at their will. We welcome all LGBTQIA+ people, regardless of gender, to this workshop. Length of workshop varies depending on occasions.
Self-Defense for Girls and Trans Children
1-day workshops for girls and trans children. The age groups are the following: 8-10 years, 10-12 years, 12-14 years, 15-17 years.
Slagtog offers workshops developed by trainers from Belgian ngo Garance over many years of working with children in FSD. The workshops are adjusted to each age group’s developmental stage, socially, psychologically, physiologically and cognitively. The teaching is done through playful and fun exercises, which allow children to talk about and reflect on violence and boundary transgression in an empowering way (as opposed to a frightening one) in a safe environment. In all workshops emphasis is put on the rights of children to feel safe, strong and free, providing the children with ways to communicate if those basic rights are being transgressed.

It’s very empowering to not only see that I’m capable of defending myself but also see others realize this.
Great trainers!
This felt and was such a safe space and so respectful it taught me so much on how I can also create those spaces for others.
Just because I’m a woman doesn’t mean I can’t defend myself both verbally & physically. I have even more tools that I can use now.
Great teaching methods, presence and workshop, recommended for everyone!
I thought the verbal self defense was in every way very useful for my daily life.
